Is it enough to have the initial thesis submission done and expected graduation before starting working in this fellowship, or do we have to be graduated at the moment of applying

Developing metrics OR validating Metrics seems very general. For instance during my PhD work(graduated last Nov.)I have data which contains some hypothesis to be tested and questions that are still open to be answered with some more samples where I did my research in Ethiopia. How is IMMANA look on this?

My PhD is in Retailing and Masters in Agricultural Economics, while the focus of my work is in Agribusiness and Food Systems. Am I eligible for the fellowship?

Dr Sultana: the only requirement is that either the home or host mentor be physically located in Africa or Asia

Hi! Is that possible to apply if I am in final stage of PhD but not defended my thesis yet but will defend until April 2020 ?

Kudzai Mukumbi: we accept applicants who have received their terminal/doctoral degree in any area that is related to agriculture, nutrition, and health. Your application should detail how your academic background will benefit the objectives of your proposed project.

Hi Gezahegn - As long as you defend and pass your thesis prior to a start that is between June- December 2021, you are eligible

Does one need to have existing data to apply for this round?

Hi Mohammed Alhaji: existing data is not a requirement, per say, for this Fellowship. As detailed in the Call for Applications, a major output of this Fellowship year is submission of your work to a peer-reviewed journal. Given the 12-month timeframe, Fellows will likely not have time to organize for data collection, collect primary data, analyze it, and prepare it for publication within the timeframe. We advise that existing data be available for this reason.

Hi Sultana: No, there is no template for the budget. There are many online resources for developing a budget for grant funding, and we expect a relatively simple and high-level budget

How we get host supervisor ? is there list of supervisors or we need search them form web or elsewhere?

Hi Gezahegn - There are no list of host mentors to chose from. Your host mentor will likely be a person from your current university or place of employment.

Could my previous PhD Mentor be a host mentor?

Is there any time limitation about how much time I have to spent in Home Mentor's country ?

I have two potential proposal ideas that may fit well for the IMMANA Fellowship. Can one send multiple (in my case, two) concept notes for review?

Hi Shruthi: yes, we are happy to provide feedback on multiple concept note. We accept only 1 full application from each candidate.

When talking about “validation” of a measurement it makes me think about quantitative data, or does, for example, face validity also count?

Is this fellowship aimed at candidates at a particular stage of their careers (starting, mid-career etc.)?

Hi Vijaya: no, there is no particular career stage. We are looking for high impact research and applicants who are well-prepared to have high impact in their area of research or policy work

Hi Diana: "validation" is definitely not limited to quantitative data. We detail how we define "validation" for the purpose of this Fellowship in our Call for Applications. We welcome other types of data (qualitative, mixed methods, etc.) to measure validation of a tool/metric/method

I presume the fellowship is not for new data to be collected,but based on what we have to extend valid/feasible metrics.Is that not?

Hi Beyene: What you have described sounds like it could be a good fit for the scope of this Fellowship, depending on what specific hypotheses are left to be tested.

We do accept some new data collection, but for the reasons described related to timeframe and feasibility, we strongly advise that you have some existing data

How many manuscripts could/should the fellow expected to produce for publication? One probably?

The expectation is for 1 journal publication, but we would always encourage additional publications!

Can it be a joint application 1 mentor from host Institution and 2 mentors from Bangladesh as Home mentors ?

Will publication be mandatory?

Hi Sultana: we only have financial capacity to support 2 mentors. It is possible to have 3 mentors, if one of the mentors has agreed not to receive financial compensation
