Yes sarah! There's a rock climbing gym in Worcester and I love hiking. Best mountains are about 2 hours away BUT there are hikes closer
Claire Strom
44:38
If you all were our ages again, what is one thing you would do differently?
Tufts- Ford Barnet
46:13
And not just questions that can be found on a front page of the site, but things that are really important to you.
Rita Wang
47:31
Sarah, we also have a mountain club. They arrange climbing and hiking and go as a group!
Kendra Nowak
48:02
@sarah there's also a CRG in Worcester ~20 min from campus for climbing
emily hagan
48:39
Did anyone do a video for their Tufts app? (If so, what did you think of that? And was there a lot of editing and fancy videography involved? )
Kendra Nowak
48:41
and the white mountains are ~2-3hrs away...I've been climbing up there almost every weekend this summer!
Sarah Nguyentran
48:53
Thanks! those all sound awesome

PACE * :)
Lauren G
59:40
And there are so many clubs for *everything* - I just mentioned the ones I was heavily involved in personally haha
Kendra Nowak
01:00:26
As past-SAVMA president, I can attest that there are >25 clubs
Livia Richards
01:01:50
what is the student disability support system like?
Jazlyn Contreras
01:02:43
Is it difficult to find the time to be involved in clubs?
Lauren G
01:03:50
Selectives (electives) are also awesome because you can do an awesome course made for selectives (like Honey Bee Medicine or public policy or teaching kids, etc) OR you can make up your own thing and get it approved - which they all basically are as long as they are veterinary and appropriate and you will learn from them. So, you can go shadow a vet nearby in an area you are interested in or go do research with a nearby vet or faculty or anything like that - imagination is pretty much the limit. Selectives were a big draw for me.
Natalie Morelli
01:03:59
tips for getting through things like biochem and anatomy first year that classically give students trouble? How long did it take to hone your study habits
Karla Rodriguez
01:04:18
Hello! How hands-on can a student be in the different Hospitals, especially in Tufts VETS?
Kendra Nowak
01:05:51
TVETS is ~45 min away from Grafton, but I worked a summer there in dentistry and internal medicine and was able to learn and help with a lot of things there!
Tufts- Ford Barnet
01:06:02
out of curiosity why VETS in particular?
Nicole Moody
01:08:41
What do you think made you stand out as an applicant and ultimately get accepted?
Lauren G
01:09:55
Standing out - Doctor Who! (haha jk) but only kind of - I can't stress being a real person in interviews. Sell yourself as a student/future vet but also as a real person with real hobbies and dreams.
Lauren G
01:10:11
*can't stress enough
Remi Evans
01:10:25
I unfortunately need to jump off, but thank you all so much! This has been so great to hear your experiences and journeys at Tufts. Excited to keep learning more about Cummings.
Leah Paterno-Olivari
01:10:33
Lauren you got this lol
Lauren G
01:15:42
Finding time for clubs/other things - That's a very personalized thing! Some people take more time than others to study or relax while others go heavy into the extracurriculars. In general, Tufts does want you to have time for things outside of coursework and while curriculum is challenging and you do study a bunch, hanging out and doing clubs, etc are encouraged!
Kendra Nowak
01:17:58
Also, many clubs have lunch talks throughout the year so you're already on campus and need to eat so that's a really easy way to be involved with them!
Lauren G
01:19:17
Interview prep - know yourself, strengths AND weaknesses and practice public(ish) speaking
Lauren G
01:21:47
That's the now Sustainability/Freecycle Center :D
Tufts- Ford Barnet
01:22:01
Leah: Come to Tufts- No text books and $15 yearly parking fee!
Kendra Nowak
01:22:09
^^
Lauren G
01:22:20
the tiny parking fee though!!!
Tufts- Ford Barnet
01:22:38
I mentioned it in my Cornell visit and I lost my crowd for 2 mins
Lauren G
01:23:43
I do recommend getting or downloading the syllabus - it's exactly what the professors think is most important
Sarah Nguyentran
01:24:10
Do students typically use Anki?
Lauren G
01:24:53
we use quizlet haha
Leah Paterno-Olivari
01:25:12
we have a few quizlet queens who bless the class facebook group with their study guides
Lauren G
01:25:21
^^^
Kendra Nowak
01:26:12
We had a classmate who made review powerpoints that were amazing ---once again shows the collaborative nature of Tufts!
Lauren G
01:28:32
Research opps - Tufts loves research, just reach out to faculty doing something that interests you or style it as a selective
Tufts- Ford Barnet
01:29:53
(no longer an option)
Tufts- Ford Barnet
01:30:21
...but tell us what you want us to say about you beyond numbers and hours
Lauren G
01:31:29
hands on opps for pre-clinical students: we have clinical skills - active hands on at the farm/with the beagles, selectives give you opportunities as well, plus there are mini rotations for 2nd years
Leah Paterno-Olivari
01:33:51
Also I minored in math which I think was a little different
Tufts- Ford Barnet
01:34:01
I caught a little Tony the Tiger in that grrrreeeeaaat
Lauren G
01:35:22
Video app - I didn't do this but know that the main thing they look for is content not videography!
Leah Paterno-Olivari
01:35:50
Every interviewer who asked me, "What would you do if you don't get in?" I responded, "I'll figure out where I was weak and I will fix the gaps, then apply again." Persistence and drive!
Lauren G
01:36:54
Signature opps (not ACE) - IVM is definitely real! You get a mentor, you have talks that are required, you go abroad and do a research paper and presentation!
Lauren G
01:37:58
I got C(+)s in both organic chem classes haha
