Have you seen any ground up community planning efforts? How does the city engage with communities who may be doing their own independent planning-type efforts?
annetucker
45:45
How do you manage to use plansand maps when many people in my community have real problems reading a 2D plan
Jasmine Olins
49:09
Access to parks and open space is extremely important; however, what have you found to be the relationship between adding/improving green space and increasing home values that then lead to gentrification?
Traci Montgomery
53:31
When was the creation of your most recent master plan? Have these things been implemented on top of an existing master plan or built into the development of a new master plan?
Wing Yue W Young
54:46
Have you used public participatory GIS as a way to collect data/voices to inform planning decisions?
Kathy Dalton she/hers
56:52
Use very traditional organizing tactics to get the renters in the “room” with the homeowners. Be transparent about this, say this neighborhood has X% renters we want X% renters at this meeting and here’s what we are doing to get them here.
Denise Caruzzi
56:53
Cambridge’s work is sooooo inspirational!!
Michael Tomasoa
57:24
How did you use what you learnt at UEP and the tools provided to help your career?
Kathy Dalton she/hers
57:42
In the non-virtual world we would door knock and offer rides to the meeting…food at the meeting…translation, child care, etc.
Kathy Dalton she/hers
01:00:28
Also, in getting disenfranchised people to the larger meetings: it’s circular folks will not come to the meeting if they don’t think their voices will be heard and changes in implementation made as a result of their opinions.
Brown House Watch Party
01:02:50
response to your question: How often are people from the majority community group (homwowners) meeting with the people from the focus group? Is it possible for all community members to have a voice in their own planning compromise?
annetucker
01:03:05
The difference in expectations of their neighbourhood between renters and owners are FASCINATING - and really important to have both sides
Kathy Dalton she/hers
01:03:25
Yay! Brown house!

Can planning be inclusive and equitable when more than 90% city planners are white staff? Example, Toronto city planning staff is 97% white.

I do know if I heard exactly how you and teams you’ve worked on have measured the effectiveness of your initiatives? For example, how many more voices, representative of the community (a number specifically) are you hearing that you weren’t hearing prior to the Community Engagement Team? Is that impact being sustained? How are you all measuring the effectiveness of the Engagement members you’ve selected?
annetucker
01:08:17
Sorry what is cultural competency?
Joshua Dickens
01:08:29
A follow-up to that too, is how do gauge the value of indirect verse direct relationships with the community? I ask that because the Community Engagement Team approach seems fairly indirect.
Johnny Shively (he/him)
01:12:35
What are the limitations of community engagement in an era where gentrification and displacement are rampant? What happens if a mostly white community doesn’t want to prioritize equity?
Teva Needleman (she/her)
01:13:54
I’m not sure if I missed this, but how have your engagement strategies adapted throughout the pandemic?
Kathy Dalton she/hers
01:15:53
Another great question!
