NseAbasi Etim, PhD
02:06:17
Please I was awarded my PhD since 2015, am I eligible for the Fellowship?
Hallie Perlick
02:06:47
NseAbasi: Yes, anyone who has obtained a doctorate-level degree in any area related to ANH is eligible to apply
NseAbasi Etim, PhD
02:07:17
Does my host mentor or mentor in my previous institution need to be in same field of study or area of specialization like me?
Soul Washaya
02:07:20
Washaya Soul . I am looking for a Biostatistics mentor .
Hallie Perlick
02:09:22
NseAbasi: the mentors do not need to be in the same field/area of study as you. Ideally, the experience and expertise of the mentors will complement your own expertise
Hallie Perlick
02:10:11
Soul Washaya: the IMMANA team does not provide access to the mentors. It is the applicant's responsibility to find and propose the mentors. I would encourage you to search for biostatistics professionals within your institution and network from there.
Wanjiku Gichohi, ICRISAT
02:11:05
It says you preferably would like fellows to be working in universities?Does that mean CGIAR centre applications are not eligible?
NseAbasi Etim, PhD
02:12:00
Thanks for your responses
Hallie Perlick
02:12:23
Wanjiku Gichohi: to date, the majority of our Fellows have worked in university settings. However, the Fellowship is not limited to those working in universities. A CGIAR centre application would be eligible.
Tebby Leepile
02:13:09
Thank you for today’s sessions. Can you speak about the mentors’ qualifications, is having a PhD a requirement? What about an expert with a Masters credential and substantial experience?
Hallie Perlick
02:14:36
Tebby Leepile: there are no specific requirements pertaining to the mentors' qualifications. We are most concerned with how well the mentor's experience and expertise will complement and support your research proposal, so please be sure to focus on how well their experience/expertise applies to your project.
Wanjiku Gichohi, ICRISAT
02:15:36
Yes you are right…that is the program…
Sarah KAriuki
02:19:11
I am curious on whether the program has supported any fellows working on food safety issues
Hallie Perlick
02:19:40
Sarah KAriuki: yes! Please refer to our website https://immana.lcirah.ac.uk/immana-fellowships to see examples of past Fellowships
Sarah Redicker
02:19:51
I am currently still in the last year of my PhD and I understand the starting date of the fellowship is between June and December. Am I eligible to apply if I will have submitted my thesis by then but am still waiting for my viva (thesis defense)?
Sarah KAriuki
02:20:28
thanks
Hallie Perlick
02:20:50
Sarah Redicker: the requirement of this program is that you will have obtained your PhD before the start of your Fellowship. If you expect to receive the degree prior to December 2021, then you are eligible to apply.
Sarah Redicker
02:21:36
Thanks
Susan Keino
02:21:52

Hallie Perlick
02:46:57
Dora Rajonhson: the requirement of this program is that you will have obtained your PhD before the start of your Fellowship. If you expect to receive the degree prior to December 2021, then you are eligible to apply.

Thanks a lot for today’s session.
Hallie Perlick
03:00:38
Susan Keino: yes, any relevant data may be used to support your research proposal
Beyene WA.
03:02:22
Is there a possibility to change host mentor if the first one in case will not be available
Hallie Perlick
03:03:56
Beyene WA: it would be expected that you would discuss and confirm the mentor's availability prior to supporting the proposal. Should the unexpected arise and the mentor no longer be available following submission of the application, IMMANA would be open to changing the mentor.
Hallie Perlick
03:04:13
*prior to submitting the proposal
Dora Rajonhson
03:10:40
It seems that the project can be only related to health, nutrition, or agriculture and not necessarily mixing the three area. Any clarification on it?
Hallie Perlick
03:11:35
Hi Dora: we would be very interested in a cross-disciplinary proposal the mixes two or more of the areas
Tebby Leepile
03:12:30
Thank you
Chepchumba Chumo
03:15:32
sorry I joined in late. is it possible to do a field based research instead of already collected desktop data?
Hallie Perlick
03:17:16
Chepchumba Chumo: it may be possible to collect new data, but given the short time frame this may not be realistically feasible. If you are in the middle of some data collection now, you could continue/finish that data collection within the Fellowship year
Chepchumba Chumo
03:18:29
ok. thanks
Wanjiku Gichohi, ICRISAT
03:19:46
