Civic Life Lunch – King Boston: Building Boston’s Beloved Community
Join Tisch College for a conversation with activist, educator, veteran and the Executive Director of King Boston, Imari Paris Jeffries. King Boston is a groundbreaking nonprofit organizing working closely with the City of Boston and the Boston Foundation to create a living memorial and bold programing to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King, and their time and work together in Boston. Originally, King Boston was launched to celebrate the King’s legacy in Boston through the Embrace, a physical monument and living space in Boston Common for conversation, education and reflection on the racial and economic justice ideals they espoused. But under Paris Jeffries’ leadership, King Boston has become a much bolder experiment aimed at continuing the work of Dr. King and Coretta Scott King through the addition of a cutting-edge Center of Economic Justice, research and thought leadership, and innovative community programming like Embrace Ideas and the Embrace Ideas Festival. Together, King Boston’s unique model will serve as a call to action for the Greater Boston community.

In his role at King Boston, Imari Paris Jeffries brings a wealth of experience from the nonprofit management, racial equity, community activism, education reform, and social justice sectors, and has served in executive roles at Parenting Journey, Jumpstart, Boston Rising, and Friends of The Children. He serves as a Trustee of the UMass System and on the boards of United South End Settlement Houses, MA Budget and Policy Center, and Governor Baker’s Black Advisory Commission. Previously he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Italian Home for Children. Paris Jeffries is a three-time graduate of UMass Boston and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. through UMass Boston’s Higher Education Program.
