Energy and Environment Online Symposium
The Medford Energy and Environment Committee and the Tufts Energy Group are jointly sponsoring this online educational event for Medford residents and Tufts students. This symposium, one in a series, will address issues at the core of the Medford committee’s charter to promote energy and environmental policies and actions that can make Medford more sustainable.

Each speaker will present for 30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of a question and answer session. The event will start with introductory remarks by the Medford Energy and Environment Committee and the Tufts Energy Group.

The event will feature the following presentations:

1) Solar Options: Getting on the Road to 100% Renewable Energy, presented by Henry Vandermark, SolarWave Energy Inc.

This presentation will address “what does 100% renewables mean and how do we get there?” The rational path includes energy efficiency and deploying appropriate solar technologies focused on the benefits.

2) Preserving Urban Canopies and Tree Management, presented by Luke McKneally (Medford Energy and Environment Committee)

This presentation will address the importance of vegetation canopies to preserve the livability of urban environments, and how tree management by Medford citizens is an important component for reducing global warming effects.

3) Future of Transportation: Strategies for a Low-Carbon Region, presented by Kasia Hart and Alison Felix, Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC)

Join representatives from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council for a conversation about strategies municipalities and the Commonwealth are pursuing to reduce emissions from the transportation sector. The presentation will cover how electrification, expanding active transportation options and connections to transit, and transit-oriented development can help build a more sustainable and equitable transportation system.
