Tisch College Distinguished Speaker Series: LaTosha Brown
Join Tisch College for a conversation with organizer, philanthropic consultant, political strategist and jazz singer, LaTosha Brown. She is the co-founder of the Black Voters Matter Fund and BVM Capacity Building Institute, and the principal owner of TruthSpeaks Consulting, Inc., a philanthropy advisory consulting firm in Atlanta, GA. Throughout her career, Brown has become a trusted resource in political strategy, rural development, and special programming for a number of national and regional organizations. She is the founding project director of Grantmakers for Southern Progress and she is working to eliminate human suffering through her vision of the Southern Black Girls & Women’s Consortium. Brown also leads several international efforts to provide training, support, and funding for women-led institutions based in Guyana, Senegal, Belize and Tanzania.

Brown has received many awards, including the 2006 Spirit of Democracy Award, the Louis Burnham Award for Human Rights, the 2010 White House Champion of Change Award, the Bridge Jubilee Award, and Liberty Bell Award in 2018. Featured on CNN, HBO, MSNBC and Fox, Brown is also the founder of Saving OurSelves Coalition, a community-led disaster relief organization that helped hundreds of families in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the Southern Black Women Organizing Project, which works to strengthen the network of Black women grassroots leaders in the South. Currently, she serves on the board of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, the Southern Documentary Fund, the U.S. Human Rights Network and the Congressional Progressive Caucus Center.
