Promoting Health Literacy Among People With Intellectual Disabilities using a Variety of Communication Channels.
1sts presentation: Health education for and with people with intellectual disabilities
by Theresa Allweiss, occupational therapist (BSc) and health scientist (MSc)

To promote health and health literacy among people with intellectual disabilities (ID) we developed a peer-to-peer health education programme in a participatory way. Seven people with ID became part of our team and together we designed curricula plus teaching/learning material for four health seminars. In the webinar we will present the working process and the outcomes and impacts of our project named GESUND! (=HEALTH!).

2nd Presentation: Participatory developed explain videos
by Dirk Bruland holds a diploma in social pedagogy and doctorate in educational science

Empirically developed participatory videos are an adequate way to address target groups with cognitive impairments. Our videos focus on strengthening health literacy. Complex issues are explained in a story that is easy to understand for different sensory levels. In the webinar a video and the (theoretical) basis of the development will be presented.

3rd Presentation: Towards measures of self- and dependent care for the care networks of people with intellectual disabilities (ID) in the context of preventive health behaviors
by Christian Greb, M.Sc. in nursing sciences

This presentation outlines an early stage of development of a conceptual framework for the development of measures that address the formal and informal care networks of people with ID. The instruments to develop will cover their health literacy and their competencies to affect health literacy, self-management, self-regulation and motivation of their clients in the context of preventive health behaviors.
